Pyjama Hopes

Another evening,

another night

in pyjama hopes

waiting with bated breath

for the measured step

that will not come.

Which friend should she call this time?

Which bar?

These ‘listening waits ‘tear the years from her heart

and add them unceremoniously to her face

where angry crows stamp them into place.

How long has she lived

listening, waiting?

And still her Prince does not come.

A new thought jolts her upright –

is she waiting for the wrong thing?

Will Life creep by while she

listens for fairy dust?

Perhaps the sound of  Freedom

is no different from her heartbeat.

Perhaps bated breath

is better spent on

the Living.

I’m stumped for words to properly salute this one, Melody–it’s a beautiful and wise “sermon”. Lovely work always–God bless you!

Caddo Veil, stumped for words? Well, I’ll be! 🙂 *snicker*

I know–it’s truly remarkable; probably because I read it first thing, when I hauled myself out of bed!

Ha ha! Not a morning gal?

      • Caddo Veil says:

Not hardly!! You can’t really write till one or two a.m., and then be bright and bushy tailed “early”–usually takes me half the day to reach “half-bright”. I meant to ask you, Melody–and if we already discussed this, my brain has surely overheated: do you allow folks to use your photos, with proper copyright notice? I posted a recent poem, which begged for one of yours–though I couldn’t recall for sure if I’d seen what I wanted there–(a kind of bedraggled flower–rained on, maybe muddy?)–so I went with something else, and it was satisfactory…

        No problem – go ahead.

      • Caddo Veil says:

Thank you!–in future, I’ll let you know which one I want, and we’ll go from there!!

    My goodness… so upset…. yet so beautiful a flower….

That seems to be Truth in this life – a deeper beauty is released during the deepest trials thrown our way. There is so much pain – and so much true beauty in the midst of suffering. That’s what this piece is to me – a reminder that life can do its worst, and still grace abounds!
