Trio of Trumpets

Trio of trumpets

A joyous awakening

Regal Spring fanfare

Significance

sprig.jpg

Small progress, to be sure,

overlooked by all casual observers,

but don’t miss its significance. It is

profundity in prose,

a missive spelling out

constitutional reform,

 emancipation of slaves. It is

a palette of life to starving artists,

Monet painting van Gogh

in the round.

A Master Chef’s confection

to a parched refugee,

it teases taste buds

and tastes of freedom. It is

story choreographed,

bringing tears unbidden in

 a dark theater,

goosebumps on arms

beneath evening dress.

Beethoven’s ears opening to

Moonlight Sonata

for the first time

and dancing with the pulse of

a thousand known notes

are contained in its single song.

Galaxies are formed in its confinement,

hope carved in foliar flare;

life lives here.

See it

with

new eyes.

Taste it.

Feel it in the way your chest moves in and out,

how your brow contracts in the thinking.

Small progress, to be sure –

but don’t .

Miss.

Its.

Significance.

Sunshine’s Serenade

iceload.jpg

Tympani tap out your beat,

pitter-patter at my feet,

notes that songbirds’ trills repeat,

raindrops unafraid.

Drips and drops in double time,

church-bells’ cheerful childhood chime,

sweet percussion, Springtime rhyme,

Sunshine’s Serenade.

I’m Holding My Breath

hoarfrostsprucebranch

I’m holding my breath, lest it melt all your silver,

I’m exhaling slow, lest excitement consume;

I’m slowing my heart, lest its beats quell your music,

I’m stilling my soul, lest its vibrance entomb.

Some moments are meant to be savoured, slow…

Sing a Song of Winter

Winter Sparrow

Sing a song of winter,

a sparrow with a chill;

Sing about the way he flits

while filling up his bill.

Croon for him a song of old,

to sing the cold away;

Harmonize with frost and ice,

and winsome-warm his day.
