You know that part in the movie where the bad guy’s evil plot is finally made known – and the good guys blow the whistle or expose his treachery? That ‘ah-hah!’ moment where the truth bursts out?
We love that part, don’t we?
The wizard’s curtain is pulled away at last. The puppy-pelting factory is discovered. The back-stabbing witch gets a dose of her own medicine. All those onion layers are peeled away, and the truth at the core shines forth in all its majesty.
The Truth shall set you free…
I have had so many of these unveilings in my own heart this past year that now I forget the ‘Ah-hah!’ part. I can’t believe how NOT self-aware I have been. And each discovery removes another of my protective layers and leaves me raw and naked. Often bleeding.
Sometimes the truth is hard to face…
“Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions.” Psalm 119:29 NLT
God inspired these words years ago – a manual on maintaining good mental health. He ‘desires truth in our inmost parts’.
So get ready – peeling those onion-y layers can induce the tears as they are removed – but the truth you find there will truly set you free.
