Dungeon Living

Dungeon living breeds dungeon minds, Dungeon eyes with dungeon blinds; Dark is the tunnel where hopelessness winds, Swallowing Light on its way. Lift up your eyes, O dungeon mate, Do not accept your dungeon fate; A dungeon well-lit’s but a doorway-in-wait, Leading you back to the Day. ******************************************** Even the dark places can lead us…

Dungeon living breeds dungeon minds,

Dungeon eyes with dungeon blinds;

Dark is the tunnel where hopelessness winds,

Swallowing Light on its way.

Lift up your eyes, O dungeon mate,

Do not accept your dungeon fate;

A dungeon well-lit’s but a doorway-in-wait,

Leading you back to the Day.

********************************************

Even the dark places can lead us in their dark meanderings to where the Light resides…

    Hi, Melody… I belong to the National Speleological Society… When I was a kid I wanted to be a paleontologist and since I physically was not able to follow that course, I have tried to follow some of the wonders that the earth holds. Some of the caves are incredibly beautiful…landscapes of unimaginable worlds. And what the scientists have discovered there have been in some cases life saving. Much work is done in the study of caves on our water supply and how the earth holds it’s resources for our lives.

    The Bible says that to GOD the night is bright as day…I’ve learned that darkness too has it’s wonders and much for us to learn from. But I do understand what you are writing about in this poem is more than darkness… it’s about ruts and boundaries that suffocate our souls.

      Right – it’s about making the choice to use what the darkness has brought us to our advantage, and embracing it in new ways. It’s about learning from our darkest moments, and choosing to allow them to change us. It’s about finding what we most crave in God’s Light, too. Thank you for your deep comment! And hey – caves are fascinating! I’ve always loved them, too!! 🙂

    Do you write the poems connected to the photos? They’re beautiful.

      Yep – I write all of the poems, and also take most of the photos. I really enjoy spending time in my garden – can you tell? 🙂

      1. Little Brown Tomato

        I can. Love the photos. 🙂

    Boy, do I remember THIS, Melody–excellent work, yet again. And I gotta love the good, the ugly and the bad… Let’s torch those dungeons and head for the castle ball room! God bless you–love, Caddo

      And yet remember the dungeon lessons, too – but I’m running down the hall for that ballroom!! 🙂

        Somehow I don’t think it likely we’ll forget the lessons that cracked our hearts in two. Careful, running–don’t want to trip on that gorgeous gown you featured recently!

        🙂 Very true!

      If you want dark, there are some VERY dark ones, scattered about in the archives. Try searching for ‘abuse’ or ‘wounded heart’ as tags…

What are your thoughts?
