Reason Swirls

frozenpuddle.jpg

Reason swirls in

rippled tidal waves,

schools of thought

propelled along rip tides of random compulsion;

Mind must master momentum

or be dragged to Davy Jones’ locker,

misled by swanky salesmen.

Lies ring true when artificial authenticity

sweeps senses out to sea,

when truth is misplaced

on the shelf next to pulp fiction.

The undiscerning dragnet

will troll for all species indiscriminately;

not every fish is worth the fry.

The Great Equalizer

Pompous pines and smug cedars,

set aside superiority –

last night,

God released the Frost Fairies,

those celestial ladies-in-waiting

whose expertise is festal fashion;

today,

even the Ugly Ducklings

are Cinderellas,

even the weeds are winsome

in their fanciful finery.

The Great Equalizer,

frost paints all with the same brush –

seedling and signpost,

lilac and lantern,

thorn and thicket,

grass and grapevine;

 all are exquisitely,

royally dressed

for the Ball.

Some Would Say

Some would say your clothing’s odd, it clashes in its hue;

Others think your garments loud, and cringe at sight of you.

Others still go to great lengths to deny affinity there,

While those who know you least of all will often stop and stare.

But they don’t see, past ruffled cloth, the beauty of your heart,

Or notice with their blunted sense the qualities  apart

From which your worth is lost in sundry traits which can’t be seen,

But felt with soul and mind and gentle spirit in between.
