Snowflakes

Snowflakes soft as satin

swear solidarity,

a friendship forged on

likeness,

similarity,

hands which grip

relationship

with intent.

None are rejected

based on colour,

shape,

size;

all fall equally

under the siren-call of

gravity.

All strike earth

with a

whisper.

Their White Elephant

Silence sits upon silence,

a mute accumulation;

minutes,

days,

months,

years,

a hush pervades them all.

He won’t acknowledge

the white elephant in the room,

so neither will she;

the stillness deafens,

the lulls clamour,

all resound

with secret censorship

that wails without sound in her heart,

pounds and crackles in his brain.

He looks at her with a nameless longing,

she cries noiselessly into midnight pillows –

but still, the stillness snags,

expanding the girth

of their

white elephant.

To Deliver the Wind

Only one layer of skin

stands between her and destitution.

Having risked and lost,

over and over,

cyclical impotence,

can she proffer seed

to one whose will could crush the offering?

Heart bleeds sterility,

tosses back her love

aborted;

 womb withers and writhes in its laborious pursuit

and gives birth to stillborn hopes.

All she wanted was to be loved in return –

but contractions breed ignorance,

and impregnation defies dreams.

Arms remain empty,

gestation begets ripening rage.

Hers was impotent implantation;

her love will only deliver

the wind…
