Daylight slinks away in shame,
blushing all the while;
songbirds call the night by name,
flying single file.
Deer in dale and meadow pause
to make their grassy beds;
sun and moon exchange their vows
and nod their sleepy heads.
Spectator am I, a witness to view
The evening ritual – knitting of dew;
Painting of destinies, darkening dreams,
Death of the daylight, refraction of beams
Which bow to reflect the Creator’s delight;
Adieu to Today – I bid you good night.
