You Are Sky

vortex-sunset

You are sky,

canvas kaleidoscope

mysterious and dangerous.

I stare fascinated,

drawn by your glory,

terrified of your ferocity,

your untamed wild.

You are sunrise and rainbow,

hurricane and eye –

unpredictable and beautiful,

Beauty and Beast.

Your face reflects my own,

scrapes at places long-buried,

calls forth daybreak

from the ashes of darkness.

You smile and I dance.

You groan and I tremble,

labour beneath your tears and sighs.

You are sky,

too grand to be boxed,

too magnificent to be tamed,

and I love you.

The New Green

spirea-leaves

Earth worships Green –

Bows beneath leafy canopies

To the fountain of youth,

Sings praises to virility and supple strength

In cathedrals fashioned by fads.

But after life killed her chlorophyll,

Her true beauty bloomed;

Wisdom and resilience have proven

Gold to be the new green.

Once, When Looking Up

yellow aspen

I see You there, covering

me – a cathedral ceiling

of finespun gold, aspen-boughs

crowning my way with glory.

.

I hear You in the whisper,

silent assignations passed

from one trembling yellow throat

to another, gentle sighs.

.

I feel Your gaze rocking me sweet,

and I breathe, slow and deep, pause

mid-stride to rest in dappled

acceptance, cherished by shade.

.

You are here. You, Your essence,

Your presence – it sings, sunshine

in shadow, gold filigree

on an altar made of wood.

.

Splintered, I crack open. Your

notes rustle in my veins, seep

past knots, and I’m rooted here,

utterly, completely me.

Only You

ice-wired.jpg

Only You would take bare wire

and twist it into glacial art;

Only You could shine Your rays

and melt the hardest selfish heart.

Only love could add this sheen

and sculpt a work of vivid hue;

Only grace could dazzle me

so I would worship only You.

I Am Job

potentillabranch

I am Job,

the One of Multiplied Loss.

Family,

friends,

employment,

possessions,

reputation,

health,

value,

self –

all are added on Affliction’s Abacus.

Feeble fingers

let them slip,

great blood-drops

to a parched and greedy earth.

Having nothing more to hold,

I lift hands to heaven,

free to worship He who

gives and takes away,

Empty,

yet

so very

Full;

for who can I hold but You?

Who have I ever been

but Yours?

Ashes to ashes,

dust to dust,

naked I came,

and naked I am cursed to remain;

but it is here,

in the naked places,

that I choose Your raiment.

It is here, in the place of emptiness,

that I choose Your food.

I am Job ,

the One of Multiplied Gain…
