Autumn’s Shout

Poised on cliff as summer crumbles, Soaking sun as autumn grumbles Burst from last of straggling bees, Radiate from yellowed leaves. Whisper now, on cusp of change, Surrender expectation’s range As glory from cocoon comes out, Summer fades with Autumn’s shout.

Poised on cliff as summer crumbles,

Soaking sun as autumn grumbles

Burst from last of straggling bees,

Radiate from yellowed leaves.

Whisper now, on cusp of change,

Surrender expectation’s range

As glory from cocoon comes out,

Summer fades with Autumn’s shout.

That’s a beautiful butterfly – what is it? The only ones I really know are cabbage whites 😀

    1. melodylowes

Ew, those cabbage whites… blech. I really don’t know this one for sure – I know my birds better than my butterflies. It is unusual to see such a pretty one so late in the season – this was a gift!

WOW, this has wit and wisdom, and always beauty–wonderful, Melody! God bless you–love, Caddo

As soon as I saw your butterfly, I remembered that I had taken this shot! It was a gift. I have tried so often this summer to catch a butterfly – and this one I caught out of the corner of my eye, and as it was out of my view, held my camera up in its general direction and snapped! Love that!

      1. Caddo Veil

WOW! There isn’t a big enough font for my voiced WOW! That’s a fabulous gift, indeed.

    Really Nice picture … 🙂

      Thank you!

Your poems are so exquisite and then hearing how you got this photo . .. that takes it even beyond. God truly blesses the work of your hands! So thankful for you and what you do!

    1. melodylowes

Wow – thanks so much. My heart is warm on this cool and breezy fall day! 🙂

Hey, I just realized you’ve got a blue morning glory with that butterfly! (more awake, today) Yesterday I found some morning glory photos that were great–especially a blue one. I also learned that the white ones are known as “Angel Trumpets” –way cool, no?

    1. melodylowes

Should I be a smarty-pants and tell you angel trumpets are a different plant? 😉 A delicious name, nonetheless. I love morning glories – their name is so fitting.

      1. Caddo Veil

You know, I was afraid of this–I should have put my comment in the form of a question! Okay, Melody, educate me, please! (The picture Looked like a white morning glory…)

      2. melodylowes

The flower form is very similar, indeed – the plant is datura (poisonous!) and its common name is angel’s trumpet. I haven’t grown those for quite a few years – maybe it’s time to put some in again! They really are very lovely. Just looking at a picture is very misleading, so don’t feel bad!

      3. Caddo Veil

Well, if it were anyone but you, I’d be hiding my face in shame, maybe even depressed–but I guess I figured I was safe enough with you to risk looking like an idiot! So I’m laughing down here–and of course blaming the picture, my “old” eyes, lack of sleep, and so on and so on! Since the plant is poisonous, maybe you shouldn’t plant any–are morning glories safe?? I’m guessing yes. In case I forget–have a blessed week at school!!

      4. melodylowes

Thank you! You know – give yourself permission to not know things. I am learning to, after a lifetime of using knowledge as a shield against my imperfections. It is very freeing! 😉

      5. Caddo Veil

Oh I LIKE that–you’re always full of good ideas! I wonder if it goes back to my own school days, when not knowing the answer could be fatal–humiliation from both teachers and classmates…

      6. melodylowes

A common plight to those whose very worth depends on what he/she can DO, not in who he/she is… I’m a recovering one of those, too! 🙂

      7. Caddo Veil

You’re right–that was long before I knew Jesus; in fact, my fear of God was based on my fear of my parents–not a good thing (not “reverential, Godly fear”). So now that I know Whose I am, it doesn’t make much difference if I get a flower name wrong–there won’t be a test when we get to heaven and see His way cool garden!

      8. melodylowes

So much of what we live out of comes from those paces where we learned lies about who we are… What a great thought, that heaven has no tests!!! 🙂

      9. Caddo Veil

Yes! And everyone will be complete, and love each other–so no more competition, comparing, feeling insecure or inferior. Can hardly wait!

      10. melodylowes

        Oooh, neither can I!

Is this a good time to tell you that I once thought there were some morning glory seedlings that showed up in a flower bed, so I carefully transplanted them – only to find out they were weeds? 😦

      12. Caddo Veil

I’m snickering (lovingly!) because, of the 2 of us, you are definitely the plant/flower expert. I’ll consider it a miracle if my 1 spider plant does not expire!

      13. melodylowes

Oddly enough, I regularly kill houseplants, while my garden thrives. Who knew? *she snickers back*

      14. Caddo Veil

Now that is curious–you think it has to do with location of the plants inside, light? Or that you’re way busier during the non-garden season? (You don’t really have to answer, I’m just pondering and chatting–thinking I should warm up the chili I slaved over earlier and eat some!)

      15. melodylowes

I got permission to use that castle shot – do you have time if I send it to you to get inspired??

  7. Glenda Mills

I love this, summer fades with autumn’s shout!

    1. melodylowes

A new way to look at it? 🙂

  8. greenlightlady

Wow! I vote this poem and picture as today’s favorite. What a glorious gift it is.
