Turkey and dressing and cranberry sauce,
gravy, potatoes, and helpings of pie;
turnips and salads and cinnamon floss
to deal with the bits that your teeth trap inside.
Saying a blessing with heads bowing low,
family gathered in bustle of noise;
giving our thanks for the blessings heaped high
on hearts’ inner platters, and counting the joys
of harvest and hearth-side, of food in the bin;
O Lord of the gathering,
we usher You in!

Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends!
Nosh it up, eh!
🙂 It is somehow comforting to see an ‘eh’ in print… 🙂

Lovely harvest poem, Melody!
Thank you Madilyn! How have you been? Haven’t ‘chatted’ with you for a while!
I absolutely love “Lord of the Gathering”, Melody–and I noticed on my calendar that your T’day is Monday. I was going to wait till then to say “Happy Thanksgiving”–but I guess I can say it twice! God bless you all, and hope it’s not too family-stressful–love, Caddo
We will be celebrating tomorrow with my husband’s folks – low-key, and quiet – just right! 🙂 Thank you Caddo…
Sounds good–love and blessings to you all!
Thank you! The preparations are already underway, and the smells are already drifting! Yummmmmm….
I’ll be up for a turkey and cranberry sandwich!
Oh, wouldn’t that be fun??
Yes! I could so use a change of scenery–however, you’re fortunate that I’m home-bound, I might never leave!
I could use a secretary…
Oh Melody–I am SO Laughing (finally)! Now, that’s amusing–me as a secretary–you really have to see my piles of organized chaos to fully appreciate it!!
Caddo’s piles of stuff – meet Melody’s piles of stuff! 🙂
Do you s’pose we’d be able to tell ’em apart, or not??? The handwritten drafts, probably–but anything printed out might pose the occasional challenge, eh?
Indeed! One set of piles is likely more than enough for each…
Happy Thanksgiving Day as you usher Him in! May it be filled with grace and love!
Thank you! The feast is prepared as much as it can be the night before – and the smells are amazing already! There is much to be thankful for…
Not Thanksgiving for me – but – I can eat that meal any day of the year! A tasty post 🙂
You can’t outwear the welcome of a turkey dinner, that’s for sure! 🙂
