Holes

I see your pain, the places where jaws masticated, flesh was torn, air stung punctures and cud was savoured. Offender took his leave with no idea of how badly you were trodden upon; oblivious to damage, he went on to bigger and better things, and earned his wings. I would say that I’m sorry for…

I see your pain,

the places where jaws masticated,

flesh was torn,

air stung punctures

and cud was savoured.

Offender took his leave

with no idea of how badly

you were trodden upon;

oblivious to damage,

he went on to bigger and better things,

and earned his wings.

I would say that I’m sorry for your hurt,

so very sorry –

because I am.

But

those holes –

they give me

the only ray of light I’ve had

down here in years.

They give me

precious beverage,

liquid life,

as rain trickles over

your jagged edges.

So don’t waste your energy

seeking Offender long gone;

know that

I am better for your scars,

and know that

I think you’re

beautiful.

      You’re very welcome! We all have them – so wonderful to know that they can be redeemed and serve a purpose…

    This is so lovely! It is my holes that allow others to see me, and through me (through you), God’s light. xo

    As always, our best theology comes from art and poetry. Great.

      Theology springs from life itself, don’t you think? And as art and poetry necessarily reflect life, they too become spiritual sources. Thanks for your take on this…

        Jesus understood this; the incarnational profundities of heaven in a flesh and blood package, dwelling among the pee-ons. God on the street. How sexy is that? Count me in.

        Trust you to put things into unusual frames for us! 😉 Duly counted!
