The Cenotaphs beneath the snow
are rotting with the passing years,
the memories of long ago
grow dusty; meanwhile, freedom’s cheers
are fading with the autumn’s night,
blanching like the snow that falls,
democracy may lose its right –
as we forget, Remembrance calls.

Today is a day to remember – and as the memories fade from one generation, it is our duty and privilege to pass the torch to the next…
Wise and lovely!
Thank you Maria!

Listen to Melody!
Thank you, Melody!
Beautifully said! We must not forget our history, and we must remember to be thankful to those who gave and still give, that we might remain free!
Blessings ~ Wendy
You are so right, Wendy. ‘Lest we forget’…
This is beyond wonderful, Melody–and I LOVE the new look here!! Winter Wonderland, eh?
You should see what I see today – after wearisome weeks of overcast skies and driving snow, the world is alight with diamonds in the sunshine! I took enough photos to day to last me many a dreary winter’s eve…
very beautifully said. 🙂
Thanks Kathleen!
That was quite shivery, in more senses than one.
🙂 I’ll take that as a compliment!
Thank you for stirring us to remember and pass it on! God bless you! So glad you got lots of pictures today!
The snow is incredible out there! Lots of fodder for the poet for the days to come… 🙂
Great photo….and I completely agree with the words of your poem.
Thanks Mary!
