He spins his wheels in sinking sand,
getting nowhere fast;
he wonders where the hours went,
and why he’s always last.
Directions skewed, momentum clipped,
his focal point in sight –
how will he get to going spot
if he can’t see the light?
We could all use a little light – is yours shining today?
Wow! Great picture and poem combination, Melody! I am really enjoying my visits here. “wonders where the hours went” becomes years before one realizes it…
Blessings ~ Wendy
Isn’t that true? I wanted to put years, but hours as a word choice was so much better fit for that spot. I wonder where so much of my life has gone. So good to remember to live today!
I think you chose well… we’re advised to be in the present and live one day at a time. Life is less overwhelming lived by the minute or hour!
Isn’t that the truth! It’s simply overwhelming to take it as anything but!
That is a great combination.
Thanks Lyle! 🙂
HE should have stopped to ask for directions 😉
I have artificial light shining over me right now. But – for now – this will do.
Yes – sometimes those lights get us through the pinch until the greater light shinAnd yes, he should have stopped for directions. But would he? Of course not. He’s a man… ) 😉
Oops – ignore the typos…
Yep, we’ve got to have LIGHT. Funny thing (well, not really funny) about time and how quickly it passes “now”–I used to think life would go on forever, and it exhausted/depressed me to contemplate. Now I’m scrambling to do everything I want to, and wondering how another week/month/year just flew by…
No kidding. Where did 2012 go?
Into the ether with the last 20-30 years??
Indeed…the years the locusts ate.
Yes, that was it–the locusts (I’d blissfully forgotten them).
Good thing you have me to routinely bring them to your attention! 😦
You have such a mean streak, for a lovely poet sister!! Hey, can you tell me why my pound cakes fell?? Are they still “good”, even though unattractive?? I’m so bummed–a pound of butter and 6 eggs went into these babies!! I was planning to send them to Deb–maybe I could suggest she turn them upside down, and sprinkle conf sugar on top before serving?? Help!! (and don’t be laughin’ at me!)
I must confess my ignorance – I don’t think I’ve ever made a pound cake before! So I can’t even laugh at you (although the imp of a smile is threatening as we speak)
Well, I knew you’d at least imp a smile! It was such an easy recipe and I was so joyful, making them–I even googled, and they were less than helpful answers I received. It’s so odd because yesterday I made gingerbread and it came out PERFECTLY–so I was hopeful that I was on a roll. Arrgghh I’m going to taste one, soon as they’re cool, as I’m convinced only the appearance is marred….
Sometimes we need to close our eyes and enjoy the view… Maybe they are delicious!!! ??
I may have to write a post about this…..Pound Cake, Schmound Cake!
It sounds like just the food of poets that will inspire you to greatness!! 🙂
Har har har!
‘he wonders where the hours went’ – brilliant line… Don’t we all!
They all disappear somehow… like 2012! *sigh*
Yep, and not to burst anymore bubbles but this is the last year that we will see all the same numbers in a date 12/12/12
You’re right! The 12th upcoming is special!
Another great poem, Melody! But I was just wondering…is it dedicated to your husband? Lol!
HA ha Nope. Just a general imaginative piece… 🙂
You are very imaginative indeed!
Yet, it could only be a He… Lololol!
🙂 Loved it.
Thanks Eric! 🙂
This reminds me of “in Your light, we see light.” Thank you for helping us keep going in the right direction! God bless you!
Rather like a travel agent, I am? 🙂 Get ready for some turbulence…
