The Colour of Winter

Crisply crackling icy white clings to umber grass tonight; pewter wall and pewter sky with pewter clouds drift silent by, while robed in velvet, dark and deep, a cheesecake moon falls fast asleep.

frost on grass

Crisply crackling icy white

clings to umber grass tonight;

pewter wall and pewter sky

with pewter clouds drift silent by,

while robed in velvet, dark and deep,

a cheesecake moon falls fast asleep.

Sooner or later, I always gravitate back to food… 🙂

If you ever post a picture of a chocolate cheesecake – I’ll be there in a flash! 😉 I can’t believe I haven’t made one yet! My daughter has learned how to make my favorite chocolate cake recipe. How good is that?

      2. melodylowes

You gotta love it when the next generation picks up that food torch… 🙂 Mmmmmm, chocolate (eyes glazed over)

  5. Spirited away

You got me at cheesecake 😀 The rhythm is great too , feels like a love song.

Thank you very much! (I seem to end up at food items sooner or later…) 🙂

Magical sheen shrieking winter beauty! Wonderful Melody~again !

    1. melodylowes

Wow – thanks! We are in the middle of a wild blizzard tonight. I wish I could take a picture of it – I guess you’ll have to imagine it for yourself… 🙂 Now THAT is shrieking winter beauty!!

There is always something so naturally beautiful about your writing & it’s nice to see the photos that inspires it.

    1. melodylowes

Aw, thanks, Rosy! I respond to the images I catch, and I love that you are along for the ride! 🙂

Hmmm–lots of pewter. And cheesecake–you know I was going to make one today, but got overwhelmed with my pound cakes. Which, by the way, taste heavenly–so it’s another of those Beauty and the Beast culinary tales…who knew?? Anyway–I thought you were concerned about winter poetry, mourning the sleeping garden flowers and all? My, my–you can do any season, my dear!! And personally, I LOVE writing/reading winter poetry.

I am enjoying the challenge of finding my ‘something beautiful’ daily (hourly?) and you know I can’t help but allow food to creep into my thoughts from time to time! 🙂 We had a mini blizzard yesterday so today the trees are snow-blasted – I need to run out and snap something this morning for sure!!

      1. Caddo Veil

Oh, a mini blizzard–does shut everything down, roads, school, etc?

      2. melodylowes

Oh, we’re a hardy bunch. We just drive slower and show up late for everything. 🙂

      3. Caddo Veil

        I LIKE that!!

  9. Gallivanta

I always thought that old moon was made of plain, ordinary cheese, but ,nope, it’s not just cheese; it’s cheese….cake. Delicious!

    1. melodylowes

Now you know the truth! 🙂

  10. Debbie

This was one tasty poem, Melody! Thank you for delighting us!

You have even more experience than I of Winter conditions! As a gardener, I sometimes mourn the challenges I face – but yours would be even more stringent! I just love the image of an iceberg – I think there is a poem waiting in it…

    2. melodylowes

      Thank you, Dina!
