Bedtime Ritual

Daylight slinks away in shame, blushing all the while; songbirds call the night by name, flying single file. Deer in dale and meadow pause to make their grassy beds; sun and moon exchange their vows and nod their sleepy heads.

Sweet and serene and, being summer, bedtime is late, I suppose.

Our longest day has already come and gone – it’s all downhill from here! 🙂 That was my biggest shock in Hawaii – they have such short daylength year-round. Ours fluctuates so much. Keeps things interesting, I suppose…

But you could say Hawaii is on an even keel whilst the rest of us have to be constantly adjusting, which is interesting except in winter when it gets downright stressful!

Worse yet where it is 6 months of light and 6 months dark. Now THAT would be strange…

        Indeed!

LUV this so much! Makes me ready for bed! I can imagine saying this to young children as they lie in bed, all sweet and clean and drowsy.

You are an amazing poet Melody.

You know – I’ll take it! 🙂 I really appreciate that, Elizabeth. It is one thing to write words that mean something to me – it is another entirely to have them resonate with others as well!

I love that time of night its when our livestock in turned in to the barn and we can see the woods come alive with Owls, coyote, fox and bears. It can be quite interesting to watch.

That sounds like a wonderful spot, right in the thick of things! 🙂
