Summer is a strawberry,
incubated eggs leaking
juicy sweetness down tanned chins.
.
Summer is watermelon
rinds on styrofoam plates, chilled
picnic fare shared with neighbours.
.
Summer is barefoot grasses,
firefly lanterns at dusk,
creamsicle smudges on shorts.
.
Fireworks stars, awnings strung
with campfire’s glow, seared grill-marks,
sandy toes at water’s edge;
.
Lazy hours with dog-eared books,
aloe vera to soothe sun’s
kiss – all add up to summer.
Summer is just that, Melody. I could smell the grass as I read your post. And today, I shall have that chilled picnic for sure. Great poem 🙂
Thank you! Slurp up an extra share of watermelon for me, will you?? 🙂
What a beautiful summer 🙂
It has been a very busy summer, but a very interesting one, too. Lots of new experiences, lots of beauty.
Wow-wonderful–what a picture, I just wanted to climb into the scene.
The daylilies are outdoing themselves – quite a lovely way to end summer, with a bang of gorgeous colour.
Lovely summer 😀 ❤ beautiful thoughts
Thank you! 🙂
Ah, summer! Enjoy the rest of what is left of it! 🙂
I’m sure trying! The weather here has been hot and dry – true summer. Gotta love it!
