Fear Falls Fast and Thick

march snowflakes

Fear falls fast and thick.

Icy terrors cover logic in a blanket that mocks security,

Smothers a summer’s-worth of growth

in cold-calculated seconds.

But faith is a hot summer day,

A mind disciplined to thaw frozen lies

And dispel anxious snowstorms;

Melted, watery thoughts drip

Drip

Drip

Onto softened soil.

Just Breathe

fuzzyweed.jpg

Air so cold

it chatters

terrified

in pale lungs

sinks Arctic

anchors deep,

permafrost

of the soul,

robs senses

of the choice

to exhale –

prayer bursts its

irons, breath

warmed by hope,

cold’s power

vaporized.

She Hides

ruffed grouse

She hides her soul from prying,

pulls invisibility

close, feathered mantle shielding

vulnerable organs. Should

strangers breach her barriers,

happen suddenly upon

her inner sanctum, retreat

protocols dictate complete

withdrawal, complete shut-down.

.

So when she hears her Maker’s

footsteps in the garden, she

freezes, terrified, lest His

x-ray vision spy her here,

naked; not comprehending

a Love without boundaries

or condemnation, she hides.

This ruffed grouse didn’t understand that I meant her no harm, and beat a fast retreat. Is there a bond between her kind and mine, after all?

Flames of Freedom

burning-trail.jpg

Pressure and heat and

the presence of flames

(that deadly hellish

Trinity) made her

kindling temperature

an inevitability. And oh!

the pain,

the raw ooze as fire

tattooed skin; but as she

surrendered, her fear

went up in smoke. Her

selfishness and pride

burned away, searing

suffering soul, until only

true silver remained. Now,

her light is a beacon –

infinity’s fire – a

path of illumination for

others to follow the

Flames of Freedom.

It’s pretty cool what you can do with a burning stick at a campfire…

Hide

Life taught her well –

hide beneath pretty

off the curious

and offer a semblance

engagement. Scars

mean band-aids,

amateurish wrappings

to disguise the terror

of being known, the

risk of offering her

self and finding that

she is not enough.
