Heavy

sunset frost.jpg

Heartbreak hangs, a heavy Thing, unwelcome tribulation;

Frosted fangs shred flesh from bone in weighty proclamation.

Lamentations pierce the night as mourners bear its chill;

Earth’s foundations shift in flight as burdens overfill.

Affliction’s strain borne all alone would kill the bravest heart;

Eager souls and ready hands prepared to do their part

Will hold your heavy heartbreak high and share the bitter load;

So as you struggle with good-bye, we’re with you on this road.

*  My local community has been hit hard with the tragic loss of 15 of its loved ones after a horrible accident. It is hard to fathom what these families are enduring right now in their shock and grief. I am so proud of the ways in which people are supporting each other and loving each other through this terrible time of loss. To all the first-responders, medical staff, blood donors, coffee-pourers, blanket-bringers, and prayer warriors – thank you! May God richly bless your efforts! To all of the families and friends suffering through this awful season of hardship – the prayers and thoughts of everyone in Saskatchewan are with you all…  *

Requiem

Farewell, my love, our light is gone,

The fog has vanquished Lover’s dawn;

The setting sun bathes all in brass,

And nods her head as mourners pass.

The Funeral

Saskatchewan Landing sunset

Her heart is a sinking sun,

pooling patches of dried blood

on a canvas thickening

with yesterday’s paint. Tucked in

rich velvet and laid to rest

(open to public viewing)

she mourns its passing, pressing

treasured lines of scrawled script to

lips of stone, epitaph carved in

lieu of flowers. Rays of light,

the glory days of holding

and being held, protrude from

memories slashed through the frayed

places where sky meets casket’s

edge. The sun will rise again

but not today, not until

a thousand tomorrows have

burned to ashes, cremation’s

signature on cloud-sealed urn.

Child of Light

morning glow frosted pine

Child of Light,

we’re frozen here –

smeared with blight,

not Christmas cheer;

Shine Your star

into dark hearts,

draw us where

true healing starts.

For the beautiful children of Connecticut – we miss you already…

Farewell

Farewell to the son of the sunset hair,

your sun has set too soon.

The sky is mourning in its lair,

her cries obscure the moon.

The world grows dark upon your course,

for one less light here shines;

the weeping wind  blows rain clouds hoarse,

for sunset hair she pines.

Dedicated to the young man who tragically lost his life last night.  Your world mourns you…

Grieving

You’ve wept until your eyes are puffed

In turtle-shell disguise,

Your face is red, your cheeks are stained

With tears that trace your cries.

You hang your head as sorrow deep

Weighs your visage down;

You’ve cried heart dry so many times,

It weeps without a sound.

But you don’t see that in your grief

Your blooms are opening wide;

Rich beauty lies within your pain,

Allurement which can’t hide.

And as you grieve, the Master of

Your heart is drawing near;

He wipes your eyes, and as you cry,

True beauty washes clear.
