Paintbrush

After You painted the sun in the sky,

Adding a rainbow and brilliant sunrise;

After You crafted the mountains and trees,

Sketching the lilies, the roses, the seas –

You left me a palette, with flowers for hues,

And gave me blank canvas and paintbrush to use…

Indian paintbrush grows wild here – it comes in many variations of pinks.  This one is growing in the ditch near my yard – I don’t know its proper botanical name.   It always reminds me that art is alive all around us in this gallery we call Earth…

    I am amazed at what a prolific artist you are..your pen paints canvases of verbal beauty every day!

  3. Although your poetry and pictures warms me up in the morning, I like the words comparing our world to a gallery. It is a gentle reminder to move the ordinary we see every day into the realm of the extraordinary. Thank you.

      You always seem to see the message I am trying to express – thank you, Ivon. I like how you put things. If we had the eyes to see and appreciate the beautiful, perhaps we wouldn’t be so grouchy on the way to work… ?? 🙂

    Having had to auction off my oils, and no longer able to paint…. I appreciate the beauty you’ve found in this flower… and finding new ways to do things we no longer can do….

      That must have been a difficult thing for you…life hands us difficult things, doesn’t it? There is always a way to enjoy the arts, even without a paintbrush in hand.

  5. I liked this enough to tweet a link to it. That tweet got retweeted by two different accounts. It’s a really good poem, and a great picture.
