She Forgot Again

She set his plate,

and then replaced it

next to the crystal stem-ware,

coldly cut in geometric shapes

reflecting her loss

in infinite variations

on the kitchen floor.

    Oh dear 😦

It’s okay. I’m just making a very big adjustment. Writing about it helps. And hugs are good, too. 🙂

      1. Gallivanta

Lots of hugs from here 🙂

      2. melodylowes

        International hugs count double! 😉

    Oh WOWZA, that’s GOOD!!!

    1. melodylowes

🙂 Thanks. I was told once that the most real ones are the best ones. Well, this is real to me right now. And it helps tremendously to put thoughts to paper, somehow…

I hope we’re just talking about your son going off to college??

      2. melodylowes

Yep. And tonight I thought about my neighbours whose son is never coming home – gives me a better perspective, that’s for sure.

Oh dear…yes. All loss is hard, Mel–my heart reaches up to you, and them.

    Oh so sad 😦
    Nice write though.

Thanks! Every possible human experience is open to being treated by the poetic pen… 😉

Touching words. And yes, writing can help so much, can’t it?

    1. melodylowes

Absolutely! There is nothing like seeing things on paper to bring new perspective… Thanks, Geraldine.

My son is moving over a thousand miles away. I’m beginning to understand my parents as I never did before. I remember when I moved far away with their grandkids. I can’t imagine the loss they must’ve felt. Although I know I’m going to miss my son, I’m happy for him knowing it’s a great opportunity for him.

A mixed bag, isn’t it? Excitement and pride and sorrow and nostalgia, all rolled into one big emotional ball. A thousand miles is a long way! Thank goodness for Skype…

  8. Rum Punch Drunk

It’s always hard to let a loved one go but as you said in the comments ‘thank goodness for Skyppe’. Technology is good isn’t it?

Don’t worry, that plate won’t be left in the cupboard for too long. They usually come home begging for home cooking, clothes washing, and much more. Yes, it’s a sad but very heart moving time. It’s good to write.

    1. melodylowes

Yes, it is! Thanks for understanding, RPD! 🙂

Very sad, but beautifully expressed, Melody, and I wish you all the best and send more hugs your way! Lauren xx

    1. melodylowes

Aw, thanks Lauren. Change is always hard. I’m adjusting! 🙂
