Going Bare

She slips out of silk, chiffon garments dropping to the floor in silent summer sighs like flower petals. Leaving them where they fall, she fingers her wardrobe with a practised hand, stopping briefly at her warm wool suit, dismissing it as too formal, too restrictive. clematis seedhead

She slips out of silk, chiffon

garments dropping to the floor

in silent summer sighs like

flower petals. Leaving them

where they fall, she fingers her

wardrobe with a practised hand,

stopping briefly at her warm

wool suit, dismissing it as

too formal, too restrictive.

Dissatisfied, fingers trace

the rack again and again –

this too plain, this too last year,

that too wintry for autumn

sun. A thought strikes. Mirth tugs at

the corners of her ruby

lips as she wriggles brilliant

toenails into a leafy

carpet. “I’ll do it!” she grins.

Your poem suits your lovely photograph. I love’wriggling brilliant toenails into a leafy carpet’. 🙂

Thank you! It’s fun to imagine Autumn as a girl being a little bit daring with her wardrobe. Or lack thereof. 😉

honestly, how can one hear flowers talk as much as you do? interestingly enough, your topic cloud doesn’t have ‘flower’ in it. I suppose flowers aren’t what you’re talking about anyway. ingenious.

Hmmm – I never thought about that. My guess is that almost all of them would be about flowers in one way or another. But you’re right – they are simply the vehicle for the bigger ideas that float around in my upper floor. Thanks for that fun comment!

I agree–you have a wonderful imagination, hearing conversations/thoughts by flowers and such!

We’ve all got one. Well, maybe not all–but the creative among us, surely.

Thank you very much! My camera died 😦 so I have the excuse to upgrade a bit 🙂 but don’t have time yet to shop 😦 but won’t it be fun when I do 🙂 ! ( A lovely run-on sentence, just for you…)

🙂 A little ‘risque’, but all harmless, good fun. I think I like ‘her’, whoever ‘she’ is!

I love how you brought this flower to life – made her almost human.
    🙂

As someone who unashamedly talks to her plants as if they were, that’s a pretty great compliment! 😀

  8. I HAVE A VOICE

A la natural ! I felt a sentiment of completion and having the sweet rediscovering of True Self… The setting and settling aside to settle within ~does that make sense? Gorgeous !

    1. melodylowes

It makes perfect sense! Only those who are ready to accept themselves completely can ‘go bare’! The True Self, naked and unashamed. Lovely thought…
