Upon This Rock

leaf on rock

Upon this rock I take my stand,

I shall not stand alone;

I feel a strength beneath my feet,

A strength that’s not my own.

I feel a coolness in its shade,

A balm for flitting breast;

I feel the pulse of holy heat,

A place to sit and rest.

.

Upon this rock I build my life,

I shall not build in vain;

It anchors me to solid ground,

And lifts me up again.

A sure foundation, set in stone,

An anchor for life’s seas –

So blow and bluster, autumn wind,

You shall not conquer me.

    As I read it, a smile started to build on my face, and the more I read, the bigger my smile became. Thank you, Melody.

    Sounds like this was written just for me 🙂 Rock and solid ground are much more satisfactory than slough!

    There’s a lot of strength in that rock.

  4. This is a hymn lyric if ever there was one. Nice!

      Thanks Rob! I’m getting my music back, perhaps. I used to write and perform in our church – not for several years. Life kicked the music right out of me for a bit. But – poetry is closely linked to music, so I hope and pray that this one last piece to my healing puzzle will fall back into place one day.
