Adding Yeast

Stir me. Add the flour of infirmity, Anoint me with the oil of sorrow. Beat me. Pummel me with your fists, Pound out your frustrations on my flesh.   Bake me. Turn up the heat of your accusations, Burn me with your passions, the self that fires your actions. Kill me. I will…

fresh bread

Stir me.

Add the flour of infirmity,

Anoint me with the oil of sorrow.

Beat me.

Pummel me with your fists,

Pound out your frustrations on my flesh.

Bake me.

Turn up the heat of your accusations,

Burn me with your passions, the self that fires your actions.

Kill me.

I will rise,

Tower above you,

Tear my flesh to feed a starving world.

You will eat,

And rise

To live again.

    Rise again indeed.

Thanks Lyle! Hope you are keeping well. I have been away from my blog for quite a while and missing contact with some of my ‘regulars.’ This bread theme is extra special because this is the first gluten-free recipe I have ever tried that has been not only edible but GOOD. I had to celebrate with a poem, of course! 🙂

        Good is good!

Oh this is timely with Easter coming real soon! We get to celebrate his resurrection, knowing his suffering and sorrow was but a foretaste of new life just around the corner. Everytime we break the bread and drink the cup we are remembering Him.

      Thanks Glenda!

I look at my loaves in a new light.

    1. melodylowes

Especially the ones that actually rise properly? I well remember some of those loaves in the early days as a new wife… 😀

  4. Debbie

This is powerful , Melody! So good to read one of your poems again!

    1. melodylowes

Thanks Debbie. Life has been pretty complicated lately – I have missed chatting with some of you ‘regulars’, that’s for sure. It was relaxing to spend some time writing today…

  5. Gallivanta

Powerful! And, hello, it’s nice to see you again. Your gluten free bread looks wonderful.

    1. melodylowes

IT WAS wonderful! What a marvellous find. I can actually have a sandwich with it, and not toast it ahead of time to help it to hold together. Such a treat! Nice to chat with you – I am hoping to get some long overdue reading finished this evening. I have a week of holidays from my classroom for Easter, and while I have many projects on the go, it will be so good to relax a bit after several weeks of trying very hard to keep up an impossible pace. I could probably sleep for the entire week!

      1. Gallivanta

Please do sleep for a week, if possible!

      2. melodylowes

Does ‘still in pjs’ after noon count? 😉

      3. Gallivanta

Oh absolutely. Especially as I spent the whole day in pjs yesterday and the day before. Gosh, what sloth! I blame my sore hip.

      4. melodylowes

You have one of those, too? I just found out I have ‘femoral acetabular syndrome’ and will need both hips replaced sooner than later. I am only in my mid-forties. Ouch. Ah, well. That will give me time to write, when it comes! 😉

      5. Gallivanta

I don’t know what I have got. I am afraid to ask having seen your diagnosis. But my family has a history of hip and knee replacements, so something like that may be in my future.

      6. melodylowes

That’s too bad. It is hard to have pain looming. Life has so many difficult surprises for us all. Ah, well. All the more reason to enjoy movement while we can. AND – the technology has been improving so much – maybe by the time we need surgery, we’ll be made into Wonder Women! hehe

      7. Gallivanta

We are Wonder Women, already. We will just be a more wonderful version of Wonder Women. 😀

  6. Sissym

    Hi!

    behold the mystery of life

    🙂

    1. melodylowes

      Wise girl! Thanks, Sissy!
