About

I’m a writer, educator, songwriter.  My first book is out and available – for more on that, check out my page, Buy the Book!

I have discovered that blogging, and writing poetry in particular, is a delicious and stimulating way to express myself!  I seek to serve my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, with His help, to the best of my ability.

My heart is slowly recovering from some devastating blows.   I am learning to re-program toxic thought patterns. I have battled some potent lies, and am slowly learning to lean on the truth – I am loved, I am enough, I am chosen and gifted and have a profound purpose.

My writing seeks to process the realities of a fallen world, while reflecting the beauty that I am learning to see along the way.

I have been writing a devotional series for women, and have started posting those here. If you would like to walk with me in this messy journey called life and explore issues of faith, join me!

I warmly welcome you to my musings.  I hope that you can find within these pages something to connect to.   Something to revitalize your spirit for the long road ahead.   Something to give you a boost or a God-thought or a little bit of beauty to chew on.

Something to make you smile…

  2. Hello :):

I’m thinking that WordPress would do well to spend a little more time marketing to specific demographics! What am I getting at? Oh, just that your blog is a delicious little corner for me and for all the times I’ve perused posts from topics I thought might be important….*sigh*, well, just don’t know how I never came here.

Well, I am now! Looking forward to keeping up. Loved the most recent poem.

  6. I think sometimes it’s hard to categorize all the emotion and ideas that are expressed in blogs and most wouldn’t want to limit themselves that way. I love the word musing!Thank you for liking my post.

Thank you for liking mine! I’m finding that as I write, the blog is going in new directions, like it is alive and has a heart of its own. I really enjoy finding new blogs to read, as well. Happy writing!

Life is hard sometimes. But God is a great Healer. I pray His healing touch will cover your heart like a cool, refreshing salve. Healing is a process (sometimes longer than others)… one day you’ll be able to “comfort others with the same comfort you received.” 2 Cor. 1:3-7 From what I read in your blog, God is already using you, even as you go through the healing process. Thank you for your transparency. I’m praying for you!

    • melodylowes says:

Wow. Thanks so much! I am experiencing that cool, refreshing salve – with much more refreshing to come! Thank you for your prayers and encouragement – they mean a lot…

Hello! I have been enjoying your haiku – due in part to your influence I have been experimenting with that format myself! I find the poetic community to be very inspiring…

  19. Glad I found your blog and now that I see you not only love the Lord, but you garden too, I’ll be back! ~ Wendy

  20. Thank you for stoppnig by Keeping up with Carol and I look forward to ‘hearing’ your musings. I’m so sorry you’ve had a difficult time and hope you heal soon.

    • melodylowes says:

It is all a process, right? Nothing will be completely restored this side of heaven for any of us – but our redemptive journey is still a beautiful thing! The changes I see and feel in my own heart are no less miracles than the way gravity holds and the sun keeps its course and the trees give off oxygen as a gift…

  21. Little Brown Tomato says:

Awesome to meet other believers! 🙂 Your photography is AMAZING!

    • melodylowes says:

Thank you! I am an amateur with a simple point and shoot – but my daughter has the ‘gift’ and is teaching me little by little – her influence has radically revolutionized my use of a camera in the last month or two. I am just checking out your blog – I love how you add a simple verse or little comment to each photo.

  22. sharechair says:

    Hi,
This is just to let you know that I have nominated you for the Beautiful Blogger Award and/or the Inspiring Blogger Award.

If you chose to participate, (I understand completely if you do not wish to), please pick the award and rules from here: http://sharechair.wordpress.com/2012/07/31/sharing-awards-and-building-connections-a-brief-digression-from-tech-goodness/

Thank you for being part of this amazing blog-o-sphere 🙂

    • melodylowes says:

Thank you – this is an honor indeed. I am usually slow in responding to these awards since I lump a few together at a time – so don’t be alarmed if I don’t post about it for a while… Thanks again!

  23. Mike says:

you sound like a person at peace, and happy with, her life…. such a nice garden too. You clearly enjoy it. Thank you for sharing your poetry 🙂

    • melodylowes says:

Thank you, Mike! I can’t say that I have conquered the whole ‘peace’ thing – but I am moving there day by day, and growing content with the process instead of rushing to the destination so much – this I consider a success of sorts, and it brings me a new measure of quiet joy! I see that you are a haiku ‘Master’ – I have been experimenting with this format and enjoy the way so few words can reveal a thought or idea. Thanks for dropping by!

  31. ericmvogt says:

Love your nature poetry with a focus on spirituality. I have decided to tag you with a writing challenge that at first I was reluctant to take, but was just too intriguing to ignore. No pressure:

Today’s challenge, to host a soirée, a gathering – a dinner party, and invite the 5 most illustrative persons I would like to grace my humble abode.

    Rules:

    Throw a dinner party

    – Five guests and oneself. While relatives are permitted, it will be more interesting if guests are public figures – dead or alive, speaking any language – or even fictional characters.

    – In turn, tag five others to hold Virtual Parties of their own.

  32. nightlake says:

Hi Melody, I enjoy your poetry and photos a lot. To express my appreciation, I’ve nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. Please check my latest post for more details

  35. Dear Melody,
it is great that I discovered your fine blog 🙂
You inspired me writing something about blog awards on my blog, too, where a big discussion about blog awards is going on.
    Have a great day
    Klausbernd

    • melodylowes says:

Thank you Klausbernd! I wanted to be gentle and sensitive where others are concerned, but feel that my time is better spent in writing and reading other’s words, rather than posting about awards. That is the balance I have struck, and I am pleased with it for now.

  36. You make my soul happy…thank you xox

  37. RoSy says:

    Award for YOU http://wp.me/p2oM0H-NO

  41. jonahem246 says:

Melody – just emailed you – then discovered this section – plus lots of ‘thoughts’ from other christians – its good to be in touch – I’m retired DT teacher now making sculptural crosses full time, which means I’m at the foot of the cross quite a lot. Still not exporting – too much paper work to tangle with – but looking at WordPress (which I’ve only just started using) this might start to change judging by the number of intelligent and christian individuals using it.
    Bless you

Hi Melody. I too am recovering from a broken heart. I too am a gardener but have little free sunlight in my yard due to the trees, but then again I am a transplant from Philly to the south, and with our long hot summers here the shade is wonderful. I grow herbs and tomatoes in my small patch of sunlit yard, grow koi in my koi pond, and impatiens, black eyed Susan’s, and many other plants that will thrive

    • phillymanjim says:

My post is broken into two parts because I’m reading your post on my IPhone and hit the ‘Done’ button by mistake, At any rate, I like what I’ve read and seen in your blog. I wish you great success with your book and your h
healing process. I’m a Dad and husband, and I wrote poetry to express my joy over 30 years ago when I fell in love, got married, and took joy in the little being growing in her womb.. It wasn’t until my heart was irretrievably broken by a loss that devastated both my wife and I that I started writing again, inspired by poets like yourself, who were going through the same process. Your wry sense of humor makes me smile, and I want to thank you for all that you’ e shared,
      With warmest regards,

      Jim

    • melodylowes says:

I love herbs and tomatoes, too! I have always wanted to try a pond with some koi – one of these years…. 🙂

      • phillymanjim says:

in the early days, 2 months after I lost my beloved daughter, A group of friends each brought over beautiful landscaping type stones they found in their own yards. That day we all created a beautifully rock garden and a small Goldfish pond. we were all amazed at the beauty.

I bought myself the biggest Mattock they had had at Home Depot, as well as a transfer shovel. I planned out and dug 2 more ponds, ones that would comfortably accommodate water plants and the KOi.m.When I buy the Koi they are tiny. it gives me great pleasure to watch them grow to where some of them are over a foot long. they are such peaceful and serene fish.

Melody, I love your blog site. i gave up on political blogs some years ago. they were always so divisive, and the comments were so ugly.

I like the artistic, poetic, philosophic blogs I’ve discovered at WordPress. I think some people at Facebook must think I’ve died because I spend the small amount of free time I have in this blog community. thanks for sharing your lovely blog with all of us. I like to take a peek at it every morning because I know I’ll find something beautiful, spiritual, or inspirational, God does provide, asking only that we tend the plants. what a great bounty they provide!

      • melodylowes says:

Thank you so much for your encouragement, and for sharing some of your difficult journey with me. I find much to nourish the soul in the ‘blogosphere’, as well -and am getting wiser about the kinds of sites I choose to read with my precious time! I have to smile thinking about you watching your fish grow – may your blessings grow and abound, as well!

      • phillymanjim says:

        Thanks so much Melody!

  53. Does your blog have a contact page? I’m having a tough time locating it but, I’d like to send

  56. Hi Melody

My name is Kevin Gillespie, I do, MUCH prefer to be called Kev though, :).

I live in Wales, & am now Following your Blog. 🙂

    Best Wishes

    • melodylowes says:

Hello Kev! My in-laws are launching on a cruise in your area as we speak – I can’t wait to hear all about their adventures. Wales is on my ‘bucket list’… 🙂

  57. Hello Melody! This is my first visit to your blog and definitely will not be my last. Your poetry is fabulous , and as a beginner it certainly gives me something to aspire to! Your photos are also wonderful. I started reading through your poems and kept clicking on “like…”….so just had to tell you, I LOVE them all.

    • melodylowes says:

Thanks so much! What a joy to find that my words and ideas are able to resonate with complete strangers, all over the world… Keep writing! Poetry is a wonderful conduit for sharing ourselves.

  58. Thank you for following, I will enjoy your post and look forward to those in the future. AJM

  59. Dean Smith says:

Hi I see you grow roses. I presume that photo is of a one you grow. Do you winter your fancy roses? If so did the one pictured survive the winter and if it did what is its name. It’s a beautiful rose. I grow roses on the Canadian prairies as well and some of my fancy roses have survived, but most have not, so I am always looking for ones that can.

    • melodylowes says:

Hi Dean! Most of my roses are in the Morden series – they tend to winter the best. I cover them with burlap for the winter, just to keep them from drying out in early spring. A few years ago I lost almost 20 roses in one season, and haven’t replaced the more tender varieties – they get to be pretty expensive ‘annuals’!!

  60. Nice Blog!
I will look into linking your suggestion on http://www.ChurchNB.com when I get a chance to view the content at the beginning of the year.
I am still organizing with all the links I come across. One on topic discussed would be valuable indeed.
