Transformation

frosty spruce

Just as frost makes pearls from pain and covers plain with glory,

So your faith can glean the grain within your painful story;

When you feel the pinch of frost, the sting of cold rejection,

Know one day when it has lost, you’ll be a grace confection.

Surprise

frosty-fence

frost feeds on fear

freezes future fortunes

dishes up death on a silver platter

wouldn’t it be shocked to know

when we are flash-frozen

we grow glorious?

The Covering

frost crystals

She wrapped her naked soul in frost,

Afraid of being known;

But hiding came at bitter cost –

This skin was not her own.

She lost connection to her core

As frozen walls were raised;

The warmth of Love could melt, restore,

So she could live unglazed.

inanimate and stupid

not content with isolation

reaches with deliberate fingers,

compassion growing great dendrites

fusing cold compatriots into masses of grey matter.

slap the unpalatable needy palms,

disdain growing unquenchable cancers

which gorge themselves on intellectual arguments.

Shine On

frosty sunflower

Shine on, little one,

though your petals crack

with cold and icy

shivers lick hungry

at your tender throat.

*

Shine on when Arctic

winds whisper white lies,

slanderous icebergs

distorting your image,

warping your purpose.

*

Shine on when frosty

tentacles deaden

pulse, sluggish sap-drips

creeping in dead-end

veins, maze of the damned.

*

Shine on despite cold

that hounds, ferocious

predator alert

for signs of weakness,

patient for the kill.

*

For your name is Light.

Your breath blooms as warm

sunbeams. You were born

to spin straw into

gold; so shine, shine on.
