Resilient Genes

The frosts have come, their task complete; botanic carnage at fall’s feet, but you retain your bright green glow – how  is it done? I need to know why some survive the holocaust, and others drop when all seems lost. Have you a secret coping means? Or do you have resilient genes?

The frosts have come,

their task complete;

botanic carnage

at fall’s feet,

but you retain

your bright green glow –

how  is it done?

I need to know

why some survive

the holocaust,

and others drop

when all seems lost.

Have you a secret

coping means?

Or do you have

resilient genes?

I love the photo, and I love the verse, Melody–and I wonder that too, seriously!!

I’d like to trace out the gene that gives resilience, and bottle it for myself, wouldn’t you?

I’m not sure I’d want it for myself, since I’m alone–and don’t feel a need to hang around to benefit anyone else. But it would be great for folks with families. I just read a news story about a man and wife who died together, following a car crash. He was 90, she was 78–they didn’t appear to be seriously hurt, at the crash scene–but were taken to the hospital anyway, being elderly. They did have internal injuries, and didn’t linger–the kids had their beds moved side by side, and they died holding hands, within 15 minutes of each other. I’m such a sucker for these stories!

How beautiful true love is… I love that story, too.

Nature is full of resilience genes, the Father intended it so. Wonderful image, it shows one infinitesimal part of the Creator’s hand.

      Well said!

This was so fabulous! 🙂 I had a neighbor in her 70’s with those kind of genes. She just did everything! God bless you!

I’ve met some of this breed, too – very inspirational!

Loved your imagery in this poem botanic carnage at falls feet.- I really like this line and how you tied it into a holocaust. It’s a great poem

Thank you for the great insightful comment. I have long wondered what qualities set apart those who survive and thrive, and those who fold in a crisis. Writing helps to come to grips with so many issues…
