If we only counted sunshine,
left behind the darkest hours,
we would only live in snatches,
in the bits between the showers.
We would never know the power
of the sun without the dark;
we would never know a flower
if we’d never seen soil stark.

What we should do is not live just in snatches but use them to overshadow the rest of the time because of the perspective we have. I’m still learning that.
Me too, Lyle, me too…
Oh WOW–“my” gorgeous sundial and a wow-wow-wonderful poem, Melody! I feel so blessed, and I say this as one who used to live just in those snatches–now I savor every moment, sun or shadow. As I write this, we’ve got a break from the serious storm we’ll be in and out of for awhile probably–a lovely light blue sky. But I should get back to work, eh? God bless you big–love, sis Caddo
Thank you Caddo…I am moving there, but I still have a leased apartment in the ‘snatches’ house! 😦
Well, I didn’t mean to paint an overly-rosy picture–I fall into the snatches cellar on occasion (like most of Sunday), but I insist on always looking forward!
A nice place to be – sounds like the weather out there is sunshine versus gloom!
It’s been back and forth–storm alerts, then blue sky–ai yai yai, you know? I just don’t want to lose power–I plan to be on the couch, watching movies and eating (of course)… Guess I should check my flashlights and batteries. Hmmm, where are they, I wonder.
Weather always was a fickle friend…
Thank you so much for your amazing poem that teaches us about the ups and downs. The sun never looks better than after a patch of clouds, rain and grey!
A very hard lesson to swallow, but true…
