O Cleft in the Rock

O Cleft in the Rock, you hide me well when winter winds and storms compel my mind to live in frozen lands, or sifting snows bark harsh commands; it’s then that, hidden, heart can cling to den of  hibernating Spring, where soul finds rest from Winter’s grip, and faith finds home, where hope won’t slip.

cleft of the rock

O Cleft in the Rock, you hide me well

when winter winds and storms compel

my mind to live in frozen lands,

or sifting snows bark harsh commands;

it’s then that, hidden, heart can cling

to den of  hibernating Spring,

where soul finds rest from Winter’s grip,

and faith finds home, where hope won’t slip.

“and faith finds home, where hope won’t slip.” Wonderful winter shot and I love especially the last line of your equally wonderful poem! We deep-freeze without hope!

      Thanks Wendy! (Soggy, are you?)

My garden and I are very soggy! But my doggy got me out there this morning in time to enjoy a short respite from the rain – by the time we came in – the rain started again before I even had my shoes off. What a sweet dog! 😉

        😉 Fun on four feet…

Melody, I really needed this today. Going through some things. Also, my husband had to take me to the ER on Wednesday because of a severe migraine (I’ve had them on & off since I was 10), and Thursday I had to go back to the doctor for another shot because I was still in pain. Anyways, I so appreciate your poem. I’m going to print it out and slip it in my Bible. Thanks for sharing your gift. May the Lord bless you abundantly this weekend. 🙂

Oh, oh! Migraines are so aggravating to deal with – any severe pain is. Hopefully this one is on its way out… It IS good to remember to tuck ourselves in to that cleft!

I can certainly see why the photo inspired the poem. Nice.

A hymn text in the making methinks.

My music seems to be the last thing to be recovered – I haven’t written any for SO long. Maybe I should tackle my fears and try one??

      1. Robert Rife

Always. Music, like poetry or any art, must be entered into readily and often, without pretense or any other expectation except the joyful involvement in the art. Use the muse one has at any given time. Leave the rest to God.

      2. melodylowes

Readily and often, huh? Hmmm… Thanks…

      3. Robert Rife

Be not afraid! Dive in and see where the spirit and muse choose to dance together.

I love this.where faith finds home where hope won’t slip…hidden in the cleft of the Rock, anchored and redeemed. Thanks for sharing Melody

A poem of hope if I have ever heard one.

Thanks Tim! Yes, I see it that way; I’m glad you do, too!

  8. Holly Michael

LOVED THIS!!! And I gave you an award from my site.

    1. melodylowes

Ooh, thanks Holly! How did your novel project go??

      1. Holly Michael

Finished! Not well written, or complete, but I got 50K words down. Also, working on the final edits for my second novel. So, lots of writing! Melody, I have to tell you that your website inspired me so often. Sometimes I go to it when I need to be inspired in my own writing. It always helps me.

      2. melodylowes

Wow – I’m very honored, Holly. I so love how this community of writers is a springboard for ideas, inspiration, challenge, hope – I have found lots to pull me onwards and upwards, too!

How come some famous art gallery hasn’t snapped you up yet? or maybe they have? I feel blessed to have my own private showing in the privacy of my home. Is life good or what ?

    1. melodylowes

Wow – very high praise! Thank you. I am just getting used to the idea of being a photographer and poet, so I am very new to this whole thing. I’ll appoint God as my Agent, and He can do with my skills exactly what He wants! 🙂

        good answer!
