Sing a Song of Winter

Sing a song of winter, a sparrow with a chill; Sing about the way he flits while filling up his bill. Croon for him a song of old, to sing the cold away; Harmonize with frost and ice, and winsome-warm his day.

Winter Sparrow

Sing a song of winter,

a sparrow with a chill;

Sing about the way he flits

while filling up his bill.

Croon for him a song of old,

to sing the cold away;

Harmonize with frost and ice,

and winsome-warm his day.

I hope you really did sing for the sparrows 🙂

      🙂 I didn’t want to scare them away! 🙂

      1. Gallivanta

I am sure your voice is not that bad. 🙂

      2. melodylowes

🙂 Perhaps not – but still enough to scare away the birds! 🙂

  2. Herbstbaum

The sparrow looks like a Redpoll (Carduelis flammea).

    1. melodylowes

      I think you’re right! 🙂

  3. RoSy

A nice catch of that bird. He’s a cute one!

    1. melodylowes

Isn’t he? And totally unconcerned by the completely ridiculously cold temperatures…

  4. I HAVE A VOICE

Sparrows always remind me of my worth and true identity ! BEAUTIFUL song!

Thank you! Yes, sparrows are tied to our significance, aren’t they? 🙂

  5. Caddo Veil

I was singing this as I read–way fun! Very clever and talented, you are!

I’m going to quote you, Ma’am. (My teenagers will need to have this very bit of information…)

And if your kids raise doubtful eyebrows, you can threaten them: “Caddo says, ‘Don’t make me come up there and straighten you out!!’”

      2. melodylowes

🙂 Let’s see how far that really gets me…

      3. Caddo Veil

Well, I’m pretty scary, so they should be properly shakin’ in their snow boots!

      4. melodylowes

They should be, but they aren’t. Youth… 🙂

      5. Caddo Veil

Well, I was not like other “youth”–not cocky/confident, no sense of invincibility; in short, scared of everything and everybody.

      6. melodylowes

So you’re making up for it now? 🙂

      7. Caddo Veil

        Some days, Yes!

  6. Debbie
