Tears Are Gems

Her tears roll swift – hot harbingers of head-aches to come, they puddle-ize her. She fears that if they keep falling, there will be nothing left to call her own, no stamp on her collar to remind her whose she is or where she came from or what she should call herself at a party.…

Her tears roll swift –

hot harbingers of head-aches to come,

they puddle-ize her.

She fears that if they keep falling,

there will be nothing left to call her own,

no stamp on her collar to remind her

whose she is

or where she came from

or what she should call herself

at a party.

But tears are

gems;

to a seasoned Collector,

they are mermaid-magical,

gathered lovingly in a bottle

and counted.

When store is sufficient,

they will be returned,

Narnian Elixir,

potion powerful enough

to reconstitute the Walking Dead.

So cry, precious heart –

tears are

gems.

Melody I really love this. It seems very topical for me at the moment, especially the last lines,
“So cry, precious heart – tears are gems”.

Wow…beautiful photo…excellent prose..tears ARE gems, caught in God’s teardrop bottle when we cry out to Him. Psalm 56:8…Put my tears in your bottle, are they not all in your Book? Thanks for sharing Melody!

I have sometimes thought that maybe my storage shed for tears is disproportionately large – but am learning that each is precious, and noticed by my Father. How precious is that? Love that psalm…

You must have very noble intentions when you cry. 🙂 There are times of real sorrow when a healing is needed. However there are times when I’m upset and sobbing about something and a little voice from somewhere tells me, “This is nothing more than self-pity. Knock it off.” It shocks me, but then I have to admit it’s the truth.
The Bible is right: “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9-10

My tears have come from a place of desperate pain – and in expressing them and allowing the sorrow out, there has been a slow but sure healing. There are tears, and then there are tears, as you say… We would do well to know our hearts well, and allow the Truth to surface, difficult or not. I lived many years being sorely out of touch with my heart, and with the truth.

Yes, there are times of real pain and I believe tears and prayers — they usually come together — are recorded with God. It’s soothing to know He knows, to understand there is a reason and the pain will work a greater healing in the end.

As to knowing our own hearts, I think we never can, totally, because our ‘knowing’ gets filtered through our good intentions and very valid excuses. That’s why we need the Holy Spirit and each other to help us understand our deep-down motives.

      2. melodylowes

So true – our ‘knowing’ has limitations and can be easily skewed or led. But the process of getting truly honest with ourselves and understanding our inmost self is also important, and quite a journey! One that, as you say, needs the direction and wisdom of others we trust…
