Not newborn skin, this.
Calloused, thick,
Barrier excludes blood
From heart of stone
Lest it beat and fulfill its function.
Stubborn film rejects sunshine,
Warmth,
Content to stagnate frozen
In primordial ooze
Lest the mess that lurks beneath
Be exposed, raw in its stench.
Your skin has kept emotions contained,
Given you a measure of control
Over the uncontrollable.
See here, the crown of thorns
Which pierces hearts of ice.
Take hold of the spear
Which alone penetrates
Thick skin.
Be melted.
Drip with awe.
And watch your dirty little secrets
Dry up and turn to dust
Before the Light of the World.
Melody, Great poem and Image. You knocked this one out of the park!
Thanks! I always did like home runs… 🙂
Oh I loved this Melody. ” drip with awe” .. .praying that I do!
I have a feeling that you do already, Debbie. Thanks so much!
How did you know my skin looks like that? 😉
*cackle, choke* Um – a lucky guess??? Well, THAT was an unexpected laugh for the day!!
I am to please!
Praise God for the crown of thorns that pierces frozen hearts…and let’s them thaw under His Radiant Sun!
Amen to that!
With our current weather – that’s about what I feel like right now.
Yuck. Well – it can’t be too much longer now. And wow will we appreciate it when it comes!
Gosh – I hope not much longer. This morning – my vehicle doors were frozen shut.
We sure will!
😦 Maybe frozen doors are why we’re full of hot air? There’s a flip side to every curse…. hahaha
Ha! 😉
Vivid imagery, Melody, and let us all “drip with awe” and be melted…:)
Thanks Lauren! That’s sweet…
