Here I am, Lord –

broken.

Again.

Tears are my most

loyal companion;

they trace the fault-lines

where sorrow cracks me wide.

Yet I take heart

as I think of You –

broken.

As buds are broken to release fragrance,

You were broken to release me.

The beauty of it

perfumes my pain,

gives it hope

and bloom.

For as Your deepest break

birthed your bravest flowers,

my broken

can blossom, too.

    Beautiful.

      Thanks C-J!

Still the floral photo, but the text was a bit un-characteristic for you, Melody. “A time for everything under heaven.” You slipped pain in there, but gave it a beautiful dressing.

Thanks Angie. Yes – not my usual fare. But this week has not been the usual week, either. And pain is just as much a part of it as joy – I write to help myself process my world and my experiences, and it happens that the road has taken one of those difficult turns just now. I so love the beautiful picture of brokenness that the Bible gives, the oxymoron of finding your life as you lose it. It helps me to meditate on these truths as I process…

I love the picture, and am hoping the poem isn’t autobiographical. But if it is, I’m sorry and hope it gets better soon!

Aw, thanks! Life can be so very difficult – but there is always hope…

Please God, let my brokenness bring you Glory!

IT will, faithful heart, it will! I pray this along with you!

The idea of Him perfuming our pain is a powerful one, as pain really stinks. 😉 Blessing of healing and hope to you. ❤ Shannon

Thanks Shannon! I cling, ever and always, to the Source of Hope. (And the prospect of smelling nice, by and by.) 🙂

And so it can, and so it can.

    1. melodylowes

Thank you. Anyone ever tell you you’re a sweetie?? 🙂

      1. Gallivanta

        You 🙂

      2. melodylowes

Then I’m a pretty elite and exclusive group!! 😀

      3. Gallivanta

Yep. I don’t actually want to tell sad tales but our paper this morning gave harrowing statistics of the stress that has been caused by the earthquakes. In this year to date, our ambulance officers have received 209 calls in our city alone for help in self harm cases. This is suppressed grief and stress on a grand scale. But apparently is to be expected in the third year after a major disaster. But the heart weeps.

I know that to be true of Japan, as well… We underestimate the need to emotional and mental health intervention after a crisis! How very sad. Our world is becoming so difficult to live in, for so many. One of the reasons I seek hope and healing in my camera lens is to prove to myself that in the midst of deep suffering and pain, there is still beauty..

      5. Gallivanta

And the miracle is, is that there is beauty. Loads of it.

      6. melodylowes

We just need to train our eyes to SEE it…and that is a process. Maybe a lifetime??

      7. Gallivanta

Gosh, darn it yes, and then just when we think we are getting the hang of it in our ripe old age, our eyes give up on us!!!!!!

      8. melodylowes

        LOL!

  9. ljlenehan

This is so beautiful! I really felt it…

    1. melodylowes

Thank you! I love how poetry is able to help me process and explore ideas and emotions….

      1. ljlenehan

I feel exactly the same way!
