The day he burst her balloon
her soul ripped in two
and her very veins
bled blue; jagged
edges, raw to the touch,
were misplaced
(lone sock
swallowed by
the dryer
in the heat of
battle). Imagine
her shock
the day she woke up
and saw that
in breaking,
in allowing herself
to rip apart at the
seams, she had
bloomed…

This little ‘balloon flower’ will literally burst into bloom when it lets itself pop open. What a marvellous lesson in redemption…
Oh my!!!
That makes me think of that little ditty “Lions and tigers and bears – oh my!’ from the Wizard of Oz! 🙂
love it
Thanks so much!!!
Melody, every time I think your last poem is your best work, you send me spiraling with a new one! The emotional content and optimism is quality inspiration..
Thanks so much! There is much to inspire around us – we just need to learn to see past what detracts from the beauty…. a very rich journey to be on, to be sure!
Love the image. Amen to the lesson!
Thanks Tina!!
powerful images, Melody – love the ending!
Thanks Pam! The truth of it just pops up, doesn’t it? 🙂
Nothing can change the fact that she is beautiful!
And when she opens up, even more so! Thanks, Heidi…
Hmmm, fascinating. “Bled blue” is probably my fave part. I suspect these flowers burst into bloom a heck of a lot quicker than I did–I keep hoping God will fast-track me: time’s runnin’ out for me to do anything great for Him, if in fact that’s in His plan. But then, my concept of “great” may not be His, eh?
Absolutely! My conception of doing great things has changed mightily in the last few years… I don’t really think He’s big into fast-track solutions as I see Him making incremental baby steps in my own life. He seems pretty pleased with His progress, so why shouldn’t I be? 🙂
Well, it’s probably some kind of pride/ego thing with me–having been such a loser, I’d like to have a great big shining heroic wide-screen movie moment before the credits roll. What would you expect from a Caddo-drama??
Something along those lines, with a drum roll added in for effect… 🙂
Oh Yes! Drum roll, maybe a cymbal, and those cool little triangles–see how I get into this!
Oh, how I LOVE this poem!!
Wonderful! I’m so glad for your visits…
I am just learning about how to do to things here at WordPress, I wanted to reblog your post, but ended up using the “Press This” I believe….anyway I have the link to your poem / blog on my blog right now….thought it was definitely one to share!
Thanks! It showed up in my notifications that you reblogged it, if I recall correctly, so it must have gotten through somehow! 🙂
[…] The Balloon. […]
There’s so much meaning to get from between the lines of this poem! Loved it! 🙂
Thanks so much Frances! You must have a deep brain… 😉
